Hey Y'all! I'm making an update to the "Tailgates" page because, to be quite honest, I'm kind of bad at writing ONLY about tailgating.. notice the lack of posts on this page.. Anyways, the "Tailgates" page will now expand past those beloved days of day drinking and BBQ! Now I'll include bringing gameday to your home! I'm moving soon & I am going to have an apartment all to myself (YAY!!), so I've been doing a lot of crafting and making decoration plans. As much as I'd love to have a "Babe Cave" and have an entire room dedicated to my favorite sports teams with lots of comfy places to watch College Football on a Saturday.. unfortunately that isn't in my budget.. So I've had to find subtle little ways to add in some sports touches! :) Some of these I currently have ready to pack, and others I'd like to do.. someday.. - Hopefully you can get some ideas for your home below!
2. Schedule Display! One of my favorites I've seen is a chalkboard in a pretty frame that displays your team's football schedule for the year! (See it on Pinterest here!) - Or if you'd like something a little less flashy, just do a plain chalkboard! You can do this with a single team, or make it a combo with the teams your whole household likes! 3- Couch pillows! Want to cuddle & watch sports? Well of course you do! Why not put it on your couch? I've seen pillows with anything from "Let's cuddle & watch sports" to "shhh.. the games on" to "I love you more than college football Saturday" - Customize it to whatever fits you and/or your family! 4-Coasters! To be honest, I haven't found a group of designs I fell in love with but I've seen a few individual ones I like! I've considered making a set that are hearts, heart shaped baseballs and heart shaped footballs. You could do whatever you wanted though, tennis ball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, etc. Maybe instead of generic you could go with team specific ones! 5- Quotes (on anything!) - Canvas paintings, magnets, wooden signs, whatever you're feeling! I personally like the lovey dovey ones the most. "I love you to the centerfield fence and back", "I vow to always love you, even during football season", ya now things like that! There's always the SEC fan's favorite "Love God, Sweet Tea, & the SEC!" to decorate a room. Or there's some inspirational ones that are great too! "Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game" (S/O to a Cinderella Story & junior high days!), "Life will always throw you curve balls, just keep fouling them off.. the right pitch will come, but when it does, be prepared to run the bases." 6- Anything Friday Night Lights, Anywhere!- I'm a Friday Night Lights lover so you never know where you're going to see a FNL quote or reference from me! "Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can't Lose.", yep that coffee mug is being made for me as I write this.. not to mention it will probably make it's way to my gallery wall! - And you can bet that when I was considering moving to Texas, "Texas Forever" would have been somewhere in that apartment.. -- Lastly, why not let everybody in your home know who your role model is? Throw up a "When I grow up, I want to be Tami Taylor" sign. Y'all know you want to!
8- Picture Frames! - Who doesn't have great memories from a sporting event? Take that snapshot and display the baby! While you're at it, put it in a custom frame! I have a cute frame that says "Touchdowns & Tailgates" that I have a picture of my friends and I before a Mizzou game. I've also done simple things like buy a 5*7 frame for a 4*6 picture and use the team colors as a boarder. 9- Bar Decor! - Alright sports & drinking just make sense together, and, I mean, this is the "Tailgates" page.. so decorate your bar with all the sports items you can! Custom glasses and serving dishes, shadow boxes of sports memories (just please not your high school jersey..), memorabilia you may have spent too much money on.., framed game tickets, or anything in between! To keep getting ideas follow the Girl Meets GAMEDAY Pinterest page, Sports Decor! We'll keep sharing ideas and ways we've shown our love for sports & all things gameday!
Any of you have sports decor in your homes? I'm always looking for ideas! :)

Clothes I've Already Purchased!
Charlie Southern/Riff Raff - So this is a combination because I love Riff Raff's clothing, but the Charlie Southern collection is definitely my favorite part! My "Meet me at the Tailgate - xoxo" tank was a great purchase! (See it above!!) They have shirts for football and baseball, but also more generic sports gear that could be for anything! I'm also a fan of their Friday Night Lights references on clothing! (Texas Forever!) - Check out Riff Raff here, or the Charlie Southern website here! VS Pink MLB & Collegiate Collections - I'm guessing most of us sports fans have been aware of the Victoria's Secret Pink Collections for awhile, but I needed them to be on the list anyway! If I want a cute piece of clothing that has my specific team on it, I head to Pink! I love their catchy phrases, cute designs, and overall comfort of the clothes! - For the best selection, find out where your team clothing is sold and head to the store! Clothes I Will Be Purchasing.. :)The Swanky Paper Doll - "Your mom called. You left your game at home." Yeah, you can get this in a t-shirt, tank, or a babies onesie. I'm game! Nothing better than a little sports smack talk on a babies onesie right? - But seriously, they have some cute clothes that are on my "to-buy" list! Plus some coffee mugs, I'm thinking the "give me baseball & tell me I'm pretty" one would look nice on my counter! - Check out their selection here! Game Day Grit - Alright, this might be one of the smaller selections when it comes to these shops but I absolutely love their clothes! I'd say which is my favorite shirt as of right now, but I don't even know! I just encourage you to go take a peak at their selection here! The Glitz Squad is my favorite section, but check out the others as well! The GameDay Chic - Loving the options The GameDay Chic has on their Etsy store! I'm thinking that the "ok, but first baseball" or the "sliding into home kind of day" shirts are added to my "to-buy" list too! - The link to their Etsy store is here! Brooke and Arrow - What I love about Brooke and Arrow is that they have graphic tees, but they also sell boutique style clothing and will include it in their sports themed pages. For instance, they have a super cute pink striped t-shirt dress that they paired with a Texas Rangers hat that I have had in my shopping cart for months now.. Ugh, time to buy? - Anyways, it's always fun to see what they have in their Peanuts & Cracker Jacks and their Touchdown categories! Check out their site here!
What stores are y'all buying your ballpark outfits from?! Have you bought from any of these stores?! Let me know in the comments section below!!
So it is Homecoming weekend, the traditions are being promoted, football game on the horizon, friends and family on their way to town, and all of this guarantees a great weekend right? It did for me! Read the post below to hear my experience and tips for the various aspects of Homecoming! Parade Time: Every year I say "I'm not going to the parade, I'm going to sleep". Well, guess what? I have attended the Homecoming parade four of my five years! There is always some reason I want to go or there is a family member in town that wants to go. Once they convince me, I sit there the majority of the time listening to mediocre high school bands play and drunk/hungover sorority members chant down the street. Then, I usually wind up in the overcrowded University bookstore to buy something and typically stop by a coffee shop for a warm drink that is most likely also overcrowded. I say all of this because even though those are the consistent memories, the parade is never a bad experience. Regardless of how long I have to wait in lines for my latte or how many people I have to push through to get to the bookstore, it is still such a unique experience. Sure having large crowds of fans at a sporting event is the norm, but this is a parade, a parade that young and old attend, and a tradition that most schools have based their own homecoming and parade off of.
Tailgating: There are a lot of great things about college football, but tailgating has got to be one of the top 5 (at least!). If you go to a school that has a rich tailgating tradition, at least once during your time at the school, just take a look or drive around and really observe how many people there are and how incredible some of these tailgates are! Sometimes, when the weather is nice, I enjoy parking far from the stadium so that I get to walk by multiple tailgates on my way to the game. You can see anything including full catered meals, DJs, TVs nicer than mine at home, beer pong, and so, so much more! It's a goal of mine to visit as many D-1 college football stadiums and you best believe I will be observing their tailgates!
It's also an essential because if you go to the parade in the early AM you can make your way to your tailgate, have some food, drinks, and desserts, hang out with friends and family, play some corn hole or whatever your tailgate game of choice is, and enjoy the day right up until game time. What doesn't sound enjoyable about that?! Game Time: The stadium.. The excitement.. The hype videos.. The screaming fans of all ages.. The band & cheerleaders performing fight songs.. The way 70,000+ people are all there for one thing, a football game.. how can anyone not love this? I'm obviously one of those people who wants to be at ball games AT LEAST 45 minutes early, 30 minutes at the latest! The pregame events pull me in and really set the stage for the entire game! Once the hype video is played and the guys run on the field the real entertainment starts, but the pregame is one of my favorite parts for sure! Homecoming wouldn't exist without a football game, so clearly it is an essential element! We all know I love college football Saturdays but watching it live is just another level! I've always loved being at a ballpark or stadium, but when you are in a stadium watching your team and cheering along with that many people it is just an experience unlike any other. Take it in and appreciate how great football games are, especially homecoming football games. Without them all the greatness that is college football wouldn't exist and what a sad world that would be right?! Bonus Events: This year we were lucky enough to have a big concert come to CoMo THE NIGHT BEFORE HOMECOMING!! Since I have never been Greek and have never had house decs or any of those festivities to take part in, I was incredibly excited to hear this announcement when it happened! Dierks Bentley was in town with Randy Houser and Drake White. The show was incredible, I strongly suggest attending to anyone who like country music even a little bit! Most people always have Greek Life events to take part in during homecoming week so your experience is probably a little different than mine, but having this additional event was super fun for me!
