What happens when a Cardinal lover and a Cubbie fan become blogging friends? They write a post about Opening Day of course!! That’s right the Girl from Girl Meets GAMEDAY, Kendra, and the Beauty behind Beauty and Her Baseball, Taylor, have joined forces for a fun Q&A session to get everyone ready for the Cubs vs Cards game this Sunday! As you can imagine, these baseball loving ladies are ready for the return of our favorite teams! 1. Favorite Team? Kendra: St. Louis Cardinals by a long shot! #GoCards Taylor: The Chicago Cubs - forever and always. 2. Favorite (Current) Player? Kendra: Just one?! Yadi Taylor: Anthony Vincent Rizzo 3. What's the best part of Opening Day? Kendra: Knowing that baseball is on every day for the next six months! Taylor: The joy that this game brings to people is honestly my favorite thing. The smiles are wider, the beers go down smoother and summer has finally arrived! 4. What are you expecting during the 2017 season? Kendra: From the Cards, I'm hoping for better defense than last year and a playoff run. I also have a good feeling that Carlos Martinez and Aledmys Diaz will have good seasons. -- From the entire MLB, I think the young stars will continue to show up and get better and better. It won't surprise me if the playoffs this year include the Cubs and Indians again, just hopefully not another World Series for that combo! Taylor: More Maddonisms, magic and wins, of course! 5. What player are you most excited to watch in 2017? Kendra: I'm most excited to watch Carlos Martinez. Quickly becoming a favorite! Taylor: Javy Baez, without a doubt! He’s always been fun to watch honestly and he proved that to everyone who watched the WBC. 6. Rizzo or Bryant? Kendra: Honestly, I like them both, but Kris Bryant. If I had to pick a Cub, it'd be him! Taylor: Rizzo, duh! *See answer #2 7. Molina or Wainwright? Kendra: So much history with these guys! What Yadi has done year in and year out is beyond impressive though. Even when we try to give him days off we can't because someones injured or we go to extra innings, yet he still performs at an incredible level! So I pick - Yadi! -- Update: I just watched the new video of Wainwright and Carlos Martinez singing in a truck and it's making my decision harder! How about I pick Yadi as my pick for player, Waino for personality? Yep, that's what I'll go with! Taylor: Ugh. Do I have to answer this? If I’m being honest, neither, but I suppose I’d take Molina over Wainwright because he is a pretty impressive catcher. 8. Opening Day or Playoff Game? Kendra: Playoffs! Opening Day is exciting and I love it, but you can't beat the Playoffs! Taylor: Shoot. This is a tough one since I’ve done both. I prefer the atmosphere of a playoff game because there is more on the line, potentially. Opening Day is just a great way to kick off the baseball season, but you’ve got 161 more games to watch. 9. Watching someone hit for the cycle or throw a perfect game? Kendra: Perfect Game. Maybe it's because I was a pitcher in my softball years, but I'd rather watch good pitching any day! Taylor: Hmmmm. That’s a tough one. Honestly, I find myself asking more questions about pitching lately when I’m watching games at home and constantly saying “defense wins championships.” I witnessed Arrieta’s first no hitter and it was so much fun to watch. I think I’d rather see a perfect game than a cycle. 10. Favorite player from the other's favorite team? Kendra: Might be cliche because of the earlier question, but Bryant and Rizzo are my favorites and not just because they're big names. They're great players, hilarious on social media, seem like nice guys. Individually, I respect what Rizzo does with his foundation, it seems like all the success in their careers hasn't gone to their heads, and Kris Bryant is insanely attractive.. Taylor: Dexter Fowler - the sweetest Georgia peach in the patch. 11. Most and Least Favorite Team Other than Cardinals or Cubs? Kendra: Most: I root for the Red Sox a lot quite a bit. Least: Dodgers. I think it's still because of Don Mattingly. He's gone, but that negative connotation remains.. I don't like Puig either.. Taylor: Well, if you really wanna know how I feel, I hate the Dodgers more than the Cardinals in all honesty. I lived in LA for a few years and tried to be a Dodgers fan while living there. It was fun… until the Cubs came to town and I became the visiting fan. I have never met people as mean as them. Don’t get me wrong, some of their fans are some of my great friends and they’re fine! But as a whole - because of *most* Dodgers fans - I do not want that team to succeed. My other favorite team in the league would have to be the Yankees, but only because Starlin Castro was my first baseball “crush,” and I believe he deserves success. 12. Will the NL Central be close at the All-Star break? Kendra: I think it will! Baseball is so unpredictable. I know the Cubs will continue to be good, but I think the Cards have made some moves and will keep it competitive! The playoffs were fun last year, but they're so much better when it's your team! Unfortunately only one of us got to experience that last year! Taylor: If by NL Central you mean the Cards and the Cubs? Yes. The rest? Not a chance. No matter what team you're rooting for I think we can all agree that life is better with baseball! Saying a BIG thank you to Taylor from Beauty and Her Baseball for doing this post with me!!
